Jasper's Birthday Celebrations

Jasper is 4 today!  He has been very excited about all the things he can do when he's 4 (like watch movies that are just a "little bit scary") and didn't want to wear footie pajamas last night because he was going to grow so much overnight that they might not fit in the morning.

He is currently in bed wearing his new batman outfit and cuddling his new remote control car from Nana and Pop, and wearing his new Spiderman hat from Auntie Ann.  We had his first "friend" birthday party on Saturday at Hartley Nature Center. Thanks to all Jasper's friends and family for making his birthday so special.

Jasper was so excited about his cake- Batman and UMD Bulldogs!

Taking some birthday-only liberties...

Wow.  Sugar anyone?

Cuties and their balloons!

Jasper's real birthday (today).  We wore birthday hats for breakfast AND when we got home (yes, the whole family).

Opening presents

We got some mileage out of these hats.

Family fun in Florida

We just got back from two wonderful weeks in Florida - a week with Nana and Pop near Orlando and a week near Fort Myers with Grandpa and Grandma.  How lucky are we?  The kids had an amazing time playing with their grandparents.  We feel very fortunate to have such an incredible family.

Reija officially seems like such a big girl now- walking and communicating (not really talking but you know exactly what she wants).  It's such a big difference.  Nana and Pop hadn't seen her since she was itty bitty and she charmed them immediately with her hugs and smiles.  She especially bonded with her Nana and that was so wonderful to see.  Jasper and Pop started up right where they left off playing cars and hide and seek.  Jasper wanted to be by Pop's side the entire week.  They have so much fun together.  Our time in Orlando included swimming, LegoLand, Dinosaur World, and lots of quality time with Nana and Pop.  It was very unfortunate that Auntie Ann was not able to join us and we look forward to seeing her soon!

In Fort Myers, we spent a lot of time in the pool and on the beach.  Reija could sit in one spot literally for over an hour and just dig in the sand.  Jasper loved swimming and spent 6 hours in the pool one day.  That's my boy.  We saw manatees, dolphins, and enjoyed picking shells.  Both kids really enjoyed swimming and playing with Grandma and Grandpa.

It was a great trip and we are having a hard time adjusting to the fact that reality starts again tomorrow.  Thank you Nana, Pop, Grandma, and Grandpa for such a fantastic vacation!

And how do you capture two weeks of fun into pictures?  Well, here's a try...

Jasper rode this car all by himself (required gas pedal and steering!).  He was so excited.

Jasper WENT ON THIS ROLLER COASTER!  He did not like it.  I couldn't believe he wanted to do it!

Reija was playing a game where she'd run into Nana's arms then run away and run back into her arms again.  This is how you win a Nana's heart.  They were so sweet together.

I love to see my kiddos playing together!  The trip was great for sibling-togetherness!

Jasper wanted the "whole family" to ride bikes again- the kids loved riding in the front!

Jasper and Papa love their crabs (Jasper said that he loved them "more than strawberries and raspberries")!  Papa is teaching Jasper how to do it and Jasper had the very important hammering job.

Jim and I spent one morning sans kiddos and went kayaking in a state park off Fort Myers.  The manatees were incredible- playing near our boats and popping up right next to our kayaks.

There were so many manatees around me here that I couldn't even paddle because their bodies were right next to my boat!
